GSC Game World announces S. T. A. L. K. E. R. 2 Update 2.0 and DLC

GSC Game World has announced Update 2.0 for S. T. A. L. K. E. R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, scheduled for release on August 20, 2026. This major free update coincides with the launch of the first significant paid story expansion, titled ‘Cost of Hope’.

The update includes a technical overhaul, transitioning the game to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5 to improve stability and performance. Visual enhancements feature revamped lighting, shadows, reflections, and organic landscapes. A new weather mechanic introduces fog that impacts both player and enemy visibility and hearing.

Gameplay improvements focus on the A-Life system, creating more realistic and dynamic encounters between stalkers and mutants at points of interest like campfires and bus stops. The update also introduces ‘Custom Rules’, allowing players to tailor difficulty settings for specific elements like economy, loot, or enemy strength.

New equipment and weaponry will be added, including three types of binoculars and four new firearms: the Arev assault rifle, GP3A and SKP designated marksman rifles, and the Fora-230 submachine gun. Additionally, a new PDA interface will allow players to track detailed run statistics and achievements.
