GSK Italia manager calls for valuing pharmaceutical innovation
At the Teha Forum in Cernobbio, Antonino Biroccio, General Manager of GSK Italia, emphasized that pharmaceutical innovation should be evaluated by the value it generates for the country rather than solely as a cost to the healthcare system.
Biroccio highlighted the pharmaceutical sector as a strategic driver for Italian economic growth. He noted that GSK has operated in Italy for 90 years, employing 4,000 people and contributing approximately 700 million euros to the national GDP through 40 supply chains across 18 regions.
Addressing challenges to the industry, Biroccio criticized current investment incentives in Italy as being fragmented and often reactive. He suggested that more strategic, focused incentives, combined with reduced bureaucracy, could strengthen the National Health Service and support the country in managing its aging population, which is the oldest in Europe.
