GST Superintendent arrested in Bengaluru for alleged bribe
Mohit Pratap Singh, a Central GST Superintendent in Bengaluru, has been arrested by Lokayukta police for allegedly accepting an Rs 8 lakh bribe. The arrest followed a trap operation conducted at Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala.
According to investigators, Singh allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from a businessman, Syed Zameer, to resolve a pending GST-related matter and close a complaint. The amount was reportedly negotiated down to Rs 8 lakh. The transaction was allegedly facilitated through a mediator, Salman Sheikh, who was also arrested during the operation.
The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials noted that the bribe was intended to settle issues related to pending GST dues and a complaint that the businessman claimed was false.
