Güstrow: Three-year-old boy dies in supermarket parking lot accident

A three-year-old boy died following a traffic accident at a supermarket parking lot in Güstrow, Germany, on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred on Eisenbahnstraße while the child was walking with his mother along the edge of the roadway.

The child reportedly fell onto the driving lane for reasons that remain unclear, where he was struck and run over by a moving van. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was unable to avoid the collision. Although emergency responders rushed the boy to a hospital in Güstrow, he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.

Police have initiated an investigation into negligent homicide. To assist in reconstructing the events, authorities have commissioned an expert from DEKRA to determine the exact circumstances that led to the child falling into the path of the vehicle.
