GSU officer detained after fatal shooting in Uasin Gishu
A General Service Unit (GSU) police constable, Nathan Kirwa, has been detained for 21 days following the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Doris Murei Nandi in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 30 at a GSU mess compound in Naiberi, near the Eldoret State Lodge. Following a dispute, Kirwa allegedly discharged his weapon, firing approximately 10 rounds. Nandi was killed instantly at the scene. Investigators recovered seven spent 9mm cartridges and noted that five rounds remained in the officer's firearm.
Kirwa, who serves as a bodyguard to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, reportedly fled the scene after the shooting but was apprehended following an overnight police search. Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga ordered the officer to remain in custody at Naiberi Police Station to allow for continued investigations and due to concerns regarding the suspect being a flight risk.
