GTA 6 pre‑sale phishing scams spread malware, warn cybersecurity firm

Cybersecurity firm NordVPN reported that fraudsters are exploiting the hype around the upcoming game GTA 6 by creating fake pre‑sale and beta download sites. These pages promise early access or beta keys for PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, then collect user credentials and deliver malware disguised as game installers or driver files. NordVPN’s CTO Marijus Briedis warned, “When people are desperate to get early access, they let their guard down. That’s the window attackers exploit.”

The scams also mimic popular piracy sites such as FitGirl and DODI, and have succeeded in stealing Rockstar Social Club accounts. Victims are redirected to paid‑for services or further malicious pages that display full‑screen ads and prompt additional payments. NordVPN advises gamers to verify any GTA 6 offers directly from Rockstar, Take‑Two Interactive, PlayStation or Xbox, avoid third‑party download sites, and check URLs before entering login details.
