GTA 6 pricing could lead industry price hikes, says developer

Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, suggests that the anticipated $80 price point for Grand Theft Auto 6 could set a necessary precedent for the video game industry. Klima argues that increasing unit prices is a vital step for the sector's survival amidst rising AAA development costs, studio closures, and project cancellations.

According to Klima, many studios are hesitant to raise prices due to fear of losing customers. He believes that major players like Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive possess the market power to lead this shift. This follows previous industry trends where standard pricing moved from $60 to $70, a change Take-Two supported for titles like NBA 2K21 to offset production costs that have reportedly increased by 300%.
