GTA 6 to change iconic sprinting controls to L3 input

Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly changing a long-standing control mechanic used in previous Rockstar Games titles. According to information shared by content creators who have seen early previews of the game, the default command for sprinting will shift from the traditional front face buttons—the X button on PlayStation and the A button on Xbox—to pressing the left analog stick (L3).

This change marks a departure from the series' established tradition, where players often had to mash front buttons to sprint. While the L3 input is a standard mechanic in many modern third-person shooters, it represents a significant shift in muscle memory for longtime fans of the franchise. Early reports suggest that Rockstar may provide additional customization options for movement and input settings to accommodate different player preferences.
