GTA IV mod introduces GTA V-style character switching

A new mod for Grand Theft Auto IV is bringing the real-time character switching mechanic from GTA V to the Liberty City setting. Developed by modder Joey (skireddv2), the project merges the base game with its two expansions, ‘The Lost and Damned’ and ‘The Ballad of Gay Tony’, into a single persistent world.

Players can seamlessly switch between the three protagonists—Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz, and Luis Lopez—using a selection wheel. When a character is switched out, they remain in the game world at their last known location, including their vehicle. The mod also aims to reorganize missions into a coherent chronological order to create a unified Liberty City experience. The character switch takes approximately 20 seconds as the game loads the necessary assets for the selected character.
