GTCO and ProvidusUnity Bank launch Google Pay services in Nigeria

Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) and ProvidusUnity Bank have expanded digital payment options in Nigeria through the integration of Google Pay.

GTCO announced that its banking arm, GTBank, and its payments subsidiary, HabariPay’s Squad gateway, are now live with the service. GTBank customers can add eligible debit cards to Google Wallet for online purchases locally and abroad. Merchants using the Squad gateway will now feature a “Pay with Google Pay” option at checkout, utilizing secure digital tokens to protect sensitive card information.

Simultaneously, ProvidusUnity Bank has enabled Google Pay for eligible Mastercard holders. This move builds on the bank’s previous investments in tokenization technology, including a 2021 collaboration with Mastercard and Thales. The integration allows customers to use compatible mobile devices at contactless terminals and with participating online merchants, aiming to enhance transaction security and convenience.
