GTCO dominates Nigerian Exchange turnover following H1 2026 results

Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) reported its audited financial results for the first half of 2026, leading to significant trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange. On a single Tuesday following the announcement, GTCO accounted for approximately 34.2 percent of the total equity value traded, with a turnover of N11.73 billion representing 88.73 million shares.

The group reported gross earnings of N1.107 trillion, an increase from N1.073 trillion in the same period of 2025. Profit before tax rose slightly to N603.03 billion, up from N600.90 billion the previous year. However, profit after tax declined to N414.19 billion from N449.01 billion. This decline was partly attributed to a N46.2 billion fair-value loss recognized during the period.

GTCO’s balance sheet showed growth, with total assets reaching N18.6 trillion and shareholders’ funds rising to N3.3 trillion. Customer deposits increased by 10.3 percent to N14.19 trillion. The company also reported improved asset quality, with the group-level non-performing loan ratio at 4.6 percent, down from 5.0 percent at the end of 2025.
