GTCO integrates Google Pay for customers and merchants in Nigeria
Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has announced the launch of Google Pay services in Nigeria, covering both consumer and merchant sides of transactions.
GTBank customers can now add their debit cards to Google Wallet to facilitate secure online payments locally and internationally. This service allows users to complete transactions for subscriptions, travel, food delivery, and digital services without manually entering card numbers, expiry dates, or CVV codes. The system utilizes digital tokens to ensure merchants do not receive actual card details, enhancing transaction security.
On the merchant side, businesses using Squad—the payment gateway operated by GTCO’s subsidiary HabariPay—can now accept Google Pay at checkout. The option is enabled by default for Squad merchants, allowing them to accept payments from customers worldwide, including the Nigerian diaspora. This integration aims to reduce transaction friction and decrease purchase abandonment rates for small and growing businesses.
