Göteborg industrial fire triggers chemical alert

A major fire broke out in an industrial building in the Gamlestaden district of Göteborg on Thursday evening. The facility is reported to contain chemicals, prompting emergency services to issue a ‘VMA’ (important message to the public) advising residents in Gamlestaden and Backa to stay indoors and close all doors, windows, and ventilation.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 20:30, noting that the smoke from the blaze was visible across large parts of the city. As of 22:00, the fire remained fully developed, and officials indicated that crews would likely remain on-site for an extended period. While the building was reportedly evacuated before emergency services arrived, there have been no immediate reports of personal injuries.
