Gátova residents face heightened alert after consecutive emergencies
Residents of Gátova, located in the Camp de Túria region, are experiencing heightened anxiety following a series of exceptional incidents in recent weeks. The community has faced a succession of emergencies, including the escape of livestock during local festivities in July, a forest fire that reached the town's outskirts in late August, and recent heavy rainfall.
During the latest storms, intense precipitation caused significant runoff in local ravines. While the town's elevated location protects it from direct flooding, residents reported concerns regarding the capacity of the sewage system to handle the volume of water and the potential for street flooding. One resident living on Monte Rodeno reported fearing that the force of the water might sweep her vehicle down the mountain, while others noted water entering their homes through terrace doors.
Local authorities, including Mayor Jesús Salmerón, have noted that while the mountainous terrain prevents large-scale flooding, the intensity of the rain poses challenges for local infrastructure. The cumulative effect of these consecutive emergencies has led to a state of constant alert and emotional tension among the population.
