Göttingen: Police officer injured during knife confrontation
A 54-year-old man from the Gotha district was arrested in Göttingen after threatening police officers with a utility knife. The incident occurred Monday afternoon near Waageplatz and Robert-Gernhardt-Platz during a routine check involving officers and search dogs.
According to the Göttingen Police Inspection, the man became increasingly aggressive during the search. He produced a utility knife from his pocket and pointed it at officers. Although he eventually dropped the weapon after repeated commands, he resisted arrest while being handcuffed, resulting in injuries to a 53-year-old female police officer. The officer required medical treatment and is currently unable to perform her duties.
During the search of his belongings, authorities discovered marijuana and additional utility knife blades. Police suspect the man was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the encounter. He is currently under investigation for threats and resisting law enforcement officers.
