Darmstadt-Dieburg expands all-day childcare for primary students

The Darmstadt-Dieburg district has expanded its all-day childcare services for primary school students beyond the legal requirement. While the legal entitlement for all-day care only applies to first-graders as of August, the district has already extended these offerings to include students in grades two through four.

Currently, 7,526 children are enrolled in the program. Vice District Administrator Lutz Köhler highlighted the John-F.-Kennedy-Schule in Münster as a model institution, noting that continuous investments in school buildings, such as the construction of cafeterias and multipurpose rooms, have enabled this proactive expansion ahead of the 2029/30 mandatory implementation.
