Guaíba Bridge accident kills two in Porto Alegre

A fatal truck accident occurred on the new Guaíba Bridge in Porto Alegre, resulting in the deaths of two men, the driver and a passenger. The vehicle, a truck-tractor with a semi-trailer, reportedly left the lane on the BR 290 while traveling from Guaíba toward Porto Alegre.

The truck-tractor became stuck on an unfinished access ramp of the new structure, while the semi-trailer fell onto the three lanes of the Freeway heading toward the coast. The accident caused a total blockade of the highway in that direction, with traffic being diverted through the Sertório region and the old bridge.

Emergency responders, including the Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Department, the Federal Highway Police (PRF), and Civil Police, attended the scene. Firefighters utilized a mechanical ladder truck to reach the cabin where the victims were located. The exact circumstances that caused the vehicle to strike the bridge's side wall remain under investigation.
