Guabirá goalkeeper faces death threats amid match-fixing allegations

A major scandal has emerged in Bolivian football following a 6-0 defeat of Guabirá by Always Ready. Guabirá coach Leonardo Egüez and several players have alleged that goalkeeper Juan Manuel Ferrel received death threats against himself, his wife, and his mother prior to the match.

According to the allegations, criminals demanded that Ferrel either pay a specific sum of money or concede at least three goals during the game. The coach reported that the atmosphere in the locker room was extremely tense, with players visibly shaken and some in tears due to the fear for their teammates' families.

Guabirá club officials have filed a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) has confirmed it is launching an official investigation into the potential match-fixing and extortion attempt. Always Ready has expressed solidarity with Guabirá and called for a thorough inquiry to protect the integrity of the sport.
