Guadalajara aqueduct project may involve private investment

The proposed construction of a new aqueduct to transport water from Chapala to Guadalajara may involve private investment, according to journalist and biologist Violeta Meléndez. Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus has not ruled out the possibility of private sector participation, though such a move would require approval from the local congress.

Meléndez noted a lack of certainty regarding the specific funding sources required for this infrastructure project. She also criticized the local legislature for what she described as a “very lukewarm” attitude, suggesting that lawmakers may be delaying discussions to avoid the political costs associated with the water issue ahead of upcoming midterm elections. She further noted that the current administration of Movimiento Ciudadano in Jalisco is facing significant political wear.
