Guadalajara begins recovery efforts following Sierra Norte wildfires

Recovery efforts are underway in the Sierra Norte region of Guadalajara following a major wildfire that began in La Mierla on July 16 and destroyed over 34,000 hectares. Three months after the fire was extinguished on September 4, local authorities have completed the repair of 56.71 kilometers of roads across 28 municipalities.

Regional government funding for the recovery includes 16 million euros for natural restoration, 1 million euros for road repairs, and 3.5 million euros to support affected primary and tourism sectors. Additionally, a specific allocation of approximately 12 million euros has been designated to GEACAM for the restoration of the La Mierla area.

Other recovery priorities include the removal of burnt timber, soil protection, and water resource management. Local officials, including the mayor of Bustar, have noted that road repairs and direct aid from the Provincial Council are already providing visible improvements in affected towns.
