Regional initiatives promote women's economic empowerment
Various regional initiatives are focusing on the economic empowerment and professional development of women through entrepreneurship, training, and labor inclusion.
In Costa Rica, Asociación ALAS, Centro de Capacitación Surí, and WED Costa Rica have launched a contest for women entrepreneurs, with applications closing on October 25. Six finalists will present their businesses on November 19.
In Chile, a forum organized by ONU Mujeres and the Subsecretaría de Turismo brought together 40 rural and indigenous women from Tarapacá, Ñuble, and La Araucanía to share culinary heritage and promote economic autonomy.
In Argentina, the “Yo Puedo” program is offering new training modules in construction, plumbing, and gas safety for women. Meanwhile, in Colombia, the Manizales administration partnered with SENA to provide 776 job vacancies to help families recover following a recent earthquake.
In Spain, the “Digitalmente Capaces” program by Fundación Randstad in Seville achieved a 37% hiring rate among women with disabilities through digital skills training. Additionally, the Guadalajara City Council has introduced six workshops to improve women's employability, covering topics from CV preparation to entrepreneurship.
