Son Espases Hospital faces patient backlog following storm
The Son Espases University Hospital in Mallorca is experiencing a significant accumulation of patients, with over 60 individuals awaiting hospital admission and more than 150 people in the emergency department.
Hospital officials attribute this surge to the recent 'dana Adam' storm, which prevented many people from seeking medical attention during the heavy rains on Monday. This, combined with the typical increase in patient volume following a weekend, has created a bottleneck. Some patients have reportedly been waiting up to a week for an available bed.
To alleviate the pressure, the Verge de la Salut hospital has been opened with 34 beds dedicated to pulmonology and internal medicine. While patient transfers are underway to redistribute the load, the hospital notes a high prevalence of respiratory issues among the elderly patients currently seeking emergency care.
