Guadalajara hosts 36th edition of Tenorio Mendocino

The Asociación Cultural Gentes de Guadalajara has announced the 36th edition of the Tenorio Mendocino, scheduled for October 31 and November 1. The theatrical production of José Zorrilla’s work will utilize the historical monuments of Guadalajara as its stage, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Plaza de Santa María.

This year’s production features Goya Award winner Laura Galán, who will play the character of Butarelli, adapted for this performance as a female figure. The production, directed by Abigail Tomey with Julia Piera as artistic co-director, combines professional and amateur performers.

New staging elements include moving the sofa scene to the gardens of the Palacio del Infantado and the dinner scene to the palace's entrance hall, overlooking the Patio de los Leones. The event, declared a Regional Tourist Interest Festival in 2011, receives institutional support totaling 63,000 euros, including 50,000 euros from the Guadalajara City Council, 8,000 euros from the Provincial Council, and 5,000 euros from the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.
