Guadalajara hosts police road‑block drill and packed World Cup fan festival

On July 13, the Zapopan police announced a simulated road‑block exercise in the Guadalajara metropolitan area. The drill, scheduled to begin at 13:00, involved multiple security corps and official units at several undisclosed points to test response times, coordination and operational capacity. Authorities urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and consult official channels for updates.

Despite a 45‑minute rainstorm, Guadalajara’s Fan Festival remained at full capacity, with spectators watching World Cup quarter‑finals such as England vs Norway and Argentina vs Switzerland on large screens near the Metropolitan Cathedral. Although the Mexican team had already been eliminated, the event attracted families, tourists and foreign fans, who praised the city’s security and organization while noting high prices for food and drinks. The festival will continue for the remaining matches, including the upcoming semifinals between Spain and France and England and Argentina.
