Guadalajara International Book Fair announces 40th edition program

The 40th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) has announced its program, scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 6 at Expo Guadalajara. The event will feature approximately 900 authors from 41 countries and over 3,000 scheduled activities.

Key participants include Indo-British author Salman Rushdie, who will deliver a keynote lecture on November 28 under special security protocols, and American novelist Siri Hustvedt. Italy will serve as the Guest of Honor, returning to the fair after 18 years with a delegation of 61 authors. The Italian presence is centered around the theme ‘The world speaks to us like a great book,’ a phrase by the late Umberto Eco.

The Italian program includes over 120 literary and professional meetings, aimed at fostering exchanges between Italian and Latin American publishing markets. Notable scheduled events include a dialogue between Alessandro Baricco and Mexican writer Valeria Luiselli. The fair will also host more than 650 book launches, various art exhibitions, and musical performances.
