Guadalajara offers Renaissance palaces and medieval villages
The province of Guadalajara in Castilla-La Mancha offers significant historical and natural attractions for cultural tourism. A primary landmark is the Palacio del Infantado, a Renaissance masterpiece featuring a unique diamond-point facade and the Patio de los Leones, which showcases Hispano-Flemish style. The palace also houses the Museo de Guadalajara, the oldest museum of its kind in Spain.
Other notable sites include the Panteón de la Condesa de la Vega del Pozo, an eclectic construction, and the village of Checa. Built around the Genitoris River, Checa is characterized by 18th-century whitewashed houses, stone bridges, and waterfalls. Nearby, the village of Chequilla is noted for its red stone architecture within the Alto Tajo Natural Park.
