Guadalajara Open: Tjen and Bucsa advance in WTA 500 tournament

The Guadalajara Open WTA 500 tournament has commenced in Mexico, featuring significant results in both the main draw and the qualifying rounds.

In the main draw, fifth seed Janice Tjen secured a place in the round of 16 after defeating Czech player Darja Vidmanova 7-6(6), 6-2. Sixth seed Cristina Bucsa also advanced, overcoming Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

The qualifying rounds concluded with Caroline Dolehide, Carole Monnet, Nao Hibino, and Iryna Shymanovich claiming the final four spots in the main draw. Notable qualifying matches included Monnet’s three-set victory over Katrina Scott and Dolehide’s comeback win against Sara Sorribes Tormo. Conversely, Mexican players Ana Sofía Sánchez and Julia García were eliminated during the qualifying stages.
