Guadalajara's Alcazar Real to Begin €4.5 million Restoration

The Guadalajara City Council plans to start the first phase of the Alcazar Real restoration before the end of the year, allocating €4.5 million for the work. About €2.2 million will come from the EU’s Integrated Local Development Strategy (EDIL) fund, while the remainder is funded by the municipality, which has also applied for a €1.5 million grant from the central government's 2 % cultural programme.

The initial phase, set to last roughly 24 months, will consolidate and restore the historic walls and vaults, refurbish the old stables for exhibition use and create an interpretation centre. Mayor Ana Guarinos presented the project, and architect Paula Lumbreras of LAVILA Arquitectos said the aim is to preserve the structure while adapting parts for museum‑type activities. Subsequent phases envision converting the site into a conference venue and adding an archaeological garden.
