Guadalquivir River narco-boat sightings drop by 80%

Sightings of high-speed narco-boats in the Guadalquivir River have decreased by 80% compared to previous periods, according to Spanish government officials. Pedro Fernández, the Government Delegate in Andalusia, noted that while annual sightings have previously reached peaks of 420 vessels, current figures stand at 35.

Officials attribute this decline to increased maritime surveillance and the permanent presence of the Guardia Civil near the river's mouth. Francisco Toscano, the Government Sub-delegate in Seville, stated that the reduction is a result of reinforced human and material resources dedicated to monitoring the river and its surroundings.

Some recent sightings occurred during periods of maritime turbulence, suggesting vessels may have been seeking refuge rather than engaging in active illicit transport. Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and the Port of Seville have moved toward installing defensive barriers in the river to further obstruct drug trafficking activities.
