Guadalupe Taddei resigns as President of Mexico's INE

Guadalupe Taddei has officially submitted her resignation as President of Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) to the Chamber of Deputies. Her departure follows allegations of corruption, conflicts of interest, and investigations by the Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) regarding irregular contracts and potential resource triangulation involving the institute's providers.

In response to the resignation, the remaining ten INE counselors met to ensure the continuity of operations for the 2026-2027 federal electoral process. While they have not yet reached a consensus on a provisional president, they have scheduled a follow-up meeting to seek an agreement. Under electoral law, the counselors must appoint a provisional president by a simple majority.

The Chamber of Deputies, through its Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), will lead the constitutional process to select a permanent successor. Meanwhile, internal investigations continue; the INE's Internal Control Body (OIC) has reported multiple files involving officials and private entities regarding irregular procurement and potential enrichment. President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed support for the decision to step down.
