Vicente Martínez Mus supports Cofrentes nuclear plant, opens Spain's biggest waste facility

At the Sectorial Energy Conference, Valencian Vice‑President and Minister of Environment Vicente Martínez Mus defended the continuation of the Cofrentes nuclear power plant, describing it as a strategic infrastructure that supplies around 44 % of the region’s electricity, stabilises the grid and avoids roughly three million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. He urged that any decision on the plant’s future be based solely on technical safety and supply criteria.

Later, Martínez Mus inaugurated the new 9,000 m² Guadassuar Centre for Bulky‑Waste Treatment, financed with more than €12 million from the Generalitat and EU Next Generation funds. The facility, the largest of its kind in Spain, will handle up to 17,000 tonnes of furniture, mattresses and other bulky items annually, boosting recycling, reducing landfill use and advancing the circular‑economy agenda in the Valencian Community.
