Guadeloupe economic actors face crisis from social unrest and drought
Guadeloupe is facing significant economic pressure due to a combination of social unrest and severe drought. Recent social conflicts involving road blockades and property damage have disrupted local businesses, including shops, artisans, and restaurants, leading to concerns over job preservation and cash flow stability.
In response to the unrest, the State and institutional partners have announced support measures to help businesses manage immediate costs such as wages, taxes, and rent. These include options for partial activity, contribution deferrals, and interest-free loans.
Simultaneously, the agricultural sector is struggling with drought conditions. Under the CASI plan, an initial wave of €376,000 is being distributed to 124 farmers in Guadeloupe to provide urgent liquidity. Economic representatives met in Pointe-à-Pitre to discuss a collective response to the ongoing tensions and the need to restore access to business locations.
