Guadeloupe hunting regulations suspended by administrative court
The administrative tribunal of Basse-Terre has suspended parts of a prefectural decree regulating hunting in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin for the 2026-2027 season. The decision follows a legal challenge brought by six environmental protection associations.
The associations argue that the principle of precaution should be applied, requesting the suspension of hunting for certain species due to insufficient scientific data or potential overlaps with breeding periods. This ruling follows a pattern of recurring legal battles; in previous years, courts have annulled authorizations for hunting species such as the red-necked dove and the crested pigeon.
This judicial intervention highlights an ongoing conflict between hunting regulations and environmental conservation efforts in the archipelago, as legal challenges have become a frequent occurrence at the start of each hunting season.
