Argentina implements regional river maintenance to prevent flooding

Various regional authorities in Argentina are implementing preventive infrastructure works to mitigate flood risks ahead of the summer season and potential El Niño effects.

In Tucumán, the Ministry of the Interior is conducting interventions in Alpachiri and Aguilares. In Alpachiri, works include opening new water paths on islets to improve flow and reduce pressure on vulnerable areas. In Aguilares, teams are dredging, cleaning, and widening the Río Chico to increase its hydraulic capacity.

In San Juan, the Provincial Committee for Emergency Response (COPRE) has mobilized the Department of Hydraulics to perform channelization and margin correction on the Jáchal and Los Patos rivers. These efforts, particularly in the Jáchal department, involve using bulldozers to manage approximately 10 kilometers of riverbed to prepare for increased water volumes.
