Guairá Chamber of Deputies approves creation of Rojas Potrero municipality
The Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies has granted preliminary approval to a bill to create the municipality of Rojas Potrero in the Guairá Department. The new district would officially separate from the municipality of Borja.
Proposed by Deputy Alejandro Aguilera, the initiative aims to address budgetary and administrative challenges. Borja is one of the largest districts in Guairá, and current municipal funds are insufficient to cover the needs of all its outlying communities. Supporters noted that Rojas Potrero already functions with a distinct identity, possessing its own church, urban center, police station, educational institutions, and patron saint festivities.
The project seeks to provide greater political and administrative autonomy to the area, facilitating more efficient resource management and closer state presence. Following this approval in the lower house, the bill has been forwarded to the Senate for further study and deliberation.
