Gualeguaychú Industrial Park treatment plant ordered closed

The Federal Court of Gualeguaychú has ordered the preventive closure of the effluent treatment plant at the Gualeguaychú Industrial Park. The decision follows an investigation into allegations that industrial waste was being discharged into the Gualeguaychú River without adequate treatment.

The court ruled that environmental contamination has been proven and that the closure is necessary to mitigate risks to the environment and human health. The plant will remain closed until it can demonstrate compliance with current environmental regulations and proper operational functionality.

In addition to the closure, the court ordered periodic inspections by the Argentine Federal Police's Environmental Crimes Department and the Entre Ríos Secretariat of Environment. Legal proceedings have also been initiated against former leaders of the Development Corporation, including George Thomas Fogg, Ernesto Ferrari, and Sergio Ramírez.
