Guam elections: Republicans flip governorship as Democrats win delegate seat
In the 2026 midterm elections, the U.S. territory of Guam reported a split political outcome. Republican Tony Ada and his running mate, E. J. Calvo, secured the governorship, defeating Democratic candidates Therese Terlaje and Sabina Perez. Ada received approximately 51.45 percent of the vote to Terlaje’s 48.15 percent, ending eight years of Democratic control in the executive office following term limits for Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
While Republicans gained the governorship and a narrow majority in the island’s unicameral legislature, Democrats won the race for Guam’s non-voting delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrat Alicia Limtiaco unseated Republican incumbent James Moylan, securing roughly 51 percent of the vote.
President Donald Trump celebrated the Republican victory in Guam via Truth Social, describing the result as a positive sign for the party. The election results in the Pacific territory were among the first to be reported in the midterm cycle.
