Guanacaste Airport to launch new charter route from Illinois
Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, has announced a new weekly charter flight route connecting Liberia to Rockford, Illinois. Scheduled to begin on February 5, 2027, and run through April 2, 2027, the service will be marketed by Apple Vacations and operated by TUI Airways using Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with a capacity of 189 passengers.
The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) stated that the new connection addresses seasonal interest from U.S. travelers. Marcos Borges, executive president of the ICT, noted that charter operations are effective for travelers with limited time and complement existing regular flights.
Data from the ICT shows that the United States remains Costa Rica's primary source market for tourists. Between January and July, the country received approximately 1.85 million international air travelers, with Guanacaste Airport accounting for 67.2% of the net growth in international air arrivals.
