Guanaja Municipal Police chief Darrel Trevor Moore Forbes assassinated

Darrel Trevor Moore Forbes, the 48-year-old chief of the Municipal Police in Guanaja, Islas de la Bahía, was assassinated by gunfire on Wednesday. The attack occurred as Moore Forbes was leaving a meeting.

Following the shooting, the official was transported to a morgue in La Ceiba for an autopsy. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive, though they have declined to release preliminary hypotheses to avoid compromising the inquiry. Local reports noted that power outages in La Ceiba hindered some forensic processes.

The killing takes place amid ongoing violence in Honduras. According to the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (OV-UNAH), the country experiences an average of six violent deaths per day.
