Guanajuato authorities investigate harassment at Pénjamo high school

The Guanajuato State Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into allegations of harassment, gender-based violence, bullying, and threats at the Preparatoria Oficial de Pénjamo, an institution affiliated with the University of Guanajuato (UG).

State Prosecutor Gerardo Vázquez Alatriste stated that the Public Ministry is acting proactively despite the absence of formal complaints, noting that authorities must be dynamic to address such issues. The investigation aims to uncover the facts surrounding the student protests.

Simultaneously, student protesters have met with UG authorities to demand the resignation of the school's director, Gerardo Fuentes Cordera, and the removal of the head of UGénero. Students expressed dissatisfaction with current protocols, alleging that while victims have been separated from the school, alleged aggressors remain part of the student body. Salvador Hernández, General Secretary of the UG, noted that university statutes do not allow for the immediate removal of officials, but promised a response to the demands shortly.
