Guanajuato fuel seizure: 59 million liters of suspected illicit fuel recovered
Mexican federal and state authorities conducted a coordinated raid in the community of La Fragua, San José de Iturbide, Guanajuato, seizing approximately 59 million liters of suspected illicit fuel. The operation, authorized by a federal judge, targeted an industrial facility containing ten large storage tanks, three cargo units, various containers, and related accounting documentation.
The seized product includes roughly 33.5 million liters of regular gasoline, 7.2 million liters of premium gasoline, and 18.2 million liters of diesel. Authorities noted that the volume is one of the largest fuel seizures recorded during the current administration.
The investigation originated on July 3, 2026, following the detention of a tanker driver in San Luis de la Paz who could not prove the legal origin or traceability of 33,000 liters of diesel. Subsequent intelligence led investigators to the La Fragua terminal, which has been identified by some reports as belonging to Grupo Simsa. While the raid occurred without immediate arrests, security officials stated that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the storage and distribution of the hydrocarbons.
