Guanajuato automotive sector sees Chinese brand expansion and security focus

The automotive industry in Guanajuato, Mexico, is experiencing significant shifts in both market composition and security requirements. According to the Mexican Association of Automobile Distributors (AMDA), 80% of the 35 new car dealerships opened in the state's industrial corridor over the last four years are Chinese brands.

Arturo González Palomino, president of AMDA, noted that the state currently hosts 140 dealerships, primarily concentrated in León, Celaya, Irapuato, and Guanajuato capital. The market remains dynamic, with vehicle sales projected to rise by 5% this year, reaching approximately 63,000 units.

Parallel to this commercial expansion, regional authorities are emphasizing the need for enhanced security to protect industrial growth. Juan Mauro González Martínez, Secretary of Security and Peace, called for increased collaboration between the government and the private sector to safeguard investments, infrastructure, and personnel. Alfredo Arzola, director of the Guanajuato Automotive Cluster, added that security strategies must evolve from reactive measures to proactive, intelligence-based collaboration to ensure operational continuity.
