Guanajuato doctor sentenced for medical negligence

A doctor identified as Fabiola Silvana “N” has been sentenced for culpable injuries in Guanajuato, Mexico, following a medical negligence incident. The case stems from a gynecological surgery performed in October 2017 in the municipality of Irapuato.

According to the Fiscalía General del Estado de Guanajuato, verification protocols and counts were not correctly followed at the end of the procedure. As a result, textile surgical material was left inside the patient's body. The patient suffered from pain and various health complications for several months before medical studies detected the foreign object, necessitating a second surgery to remove the material.

Following a judicial process, a judge issued a conviction. The sentenced doctor is required to pay an economic fine and provide full reparation for the damages caused to the victim.
