Guanajuato Governor Libia García defends $47 M World Cup broadcast spend amid Presa de la Olla opening
Governor Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo attended the traditional opening of the Presa de la Olla in Guanajuato, where thousands gathered to watch the dam gates open, accompanied by music, gastronomy and local officials as part of the San Juan and San Ignacio festivities.
She later defended a public expenditure of 47 million pesos for transmitting the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in the state. García explained that the cost covered not only the broadcast fees but also logistics for screens, stages, audio, lighting, signage and security across three venues—León, Dolores Hidalgo and Yuriria—aimed at allowing families to enjoy the event together. She emphasized transparency, noting that the detailed expenses are available on an online portal.
