Guanajuato Governor Libia García launches economic policy and critiques gender violence alert

Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo has introduced a new economic policy titled ‘Guanajuato Suma, Un Nuevo Rumbo para Nuestra Gente’. The strategy focuses on five key pillars: balanced regional development, productive diversification and technological transformation, industrial and energy infrastructure, talent and employability, and the strengthening of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The policy aims to extend economic benefits to all 46 municipalities, specifically targeting improvements in investment, tourism, agriculture, and financing to increase family incomes. In the tourism sector, which provides 209,000 jobs, the goal is to ensure economic benefits reach more local communities.

Separately, Governor García criticized the effectiveness of the federal Gender Violence Alert against Women. She stated that the mechanism ‘does not work to eradicate violence,’ noting that data from other states shows violence often persists or increases despite the alert. She highlighted that while the state has implemented legislative changes and public policies to address violence and disappearances, the federal evaluation group has not met for nearly six months.
