FGR investigates 59 million liters of fuel seized in Guanajuato
The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) is investigating the legality of 59 million liters of fuel—including gasoline and diesel—seized at a terminal in San José Iturbide, Guanajuato. The investigation focuses on potential ‘huachicol fiscal’ (tax fuel fraud), specifically whether the origin and traceability of the fuel can be proven.
Gas Natural del Noroeste, a company owned by Grupo SIMSA, has denied any wrongdoing. The company stated that its operations are completely legal and regulated by federal, state, and municipal authorities. They asserted they have held a federal permit to store petroleum products for nine years and have provided all necessary documentation to the authorities to prove the legality of their commercial relationships.
President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that the FGR is still reviewing the company's permits and that the investigation remains open. She stated that until the review is complete, the possibility of fuel fraud cannot be ruled out. Additionally, the President reported that since October 2024, the FGR has detained 2,654 people for fuel-related crimes, involving various actors including customs agents and public servants, though no Pemex employees have been identified in these specific investigations to date.
