Guanajuato health authorities launch dengue prevention campaign
The Guanajuato State Health Secretariat is implementing a comprehensive strategy to combat dengue in eight municipalities in the northeastern region of the state. The affected areas include Atarjea, Dr. Mora, Tierra Blanca, Santa Catarina, San Luis de la Paz, Victoria, San Miguel de Allende, and San José Iturbide.
Health Secretary Gabriel Cortés Alcalá has urged the public to follow the “Lava, Tapa, Voltea y Tira” (Wash, Cover, Turn, and Throw) protocol in homes, public spaces, and cemeteries to prevent water accumulation and mosquito breeding. Specific recommendations for cemeteries include using artificial flowers instead of natural ones in water-filled vases, or filling containers three-quarters full with sand to prevent standing water.
In San Luis de la Paz alone, larval control efforts from January to September have resulted in visits to 66,472 homes, protecting approximately 66,711 residents. Vector control personnel will continue scheduled activities throughout the week in various neighborhoods, including La Montañita, Cristo Rey, and Sierra Gorda.
