Guanajuato hosts major cultural festivals and university programming
The state of Guanajuato is hosting significant cultural events, including the 54th edition of the Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC) and a week of programming by the Universidad de Guanajuato (UG).
The Festival Internacional Cervantino will feature 213 performances across 17 venues, spanning music, dance, theater, and opera. Highlights include the Trío Mujeres Tamaulipecas performing Huapango music, Swiss artist Julian Sartorius, a French electronic music night, and the Bangarra Dance Theatre from Australia. The festival also includes a production of ‘Carmen’ by the Compañía Antonio Gades.
Simultaneously, the Universidad de Guanajuato is hosting various cultural activities from August 24 to 30. This includes the ‘Callejón del Ruido’ International Festival, which features events in Guanajuato, León, and Salamanca. Other UG activities include the Oscar Cycle film screenings, a virtual reality experience titled ‘Sentinella’ for suicide prevention, and various reading circles and chess club meetings.
