Guanajuato implements safety measures for women in transit and workplaces
Authorities in Guanajuato are implementing measures to address violence against women in public and transit spaces. The Secretariat for Women has completed training for 255 employees at the Guanajuato International Airport. This initiative aims to transform the terminal into a safe environment by providing sensitive and efficient guidance for women, adolescents, and girls facing emergencies or risks. The training involves administration, security, cleaning, and customer service staff, with plans to expand to airline crews in future phases.
Separately, labor representatives in Salamanca report that insecurity is impacting the workforce. The Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) noted that female workers are facing robberies and physical or psychological violence while waiting for public transportation, particularly during shift changes. Some workers have reportedly abandoned their jobs to avoid these risks. Estimates suggest that between 40% and 50% of workers in the sector have left employment due to general violence, prompting calls for increased security at transit points.
