Guanajuato implements tourism development and fraud prevention strategies

Guanajuato is implementing new strategies to strengthen its tourism sector through community development and consumer protection. The State Advisory Council for Magic Towns (Pueblos Mágicos) held its first ordinary session to plan for the upcoming National Meeting of Magic Towns in Tampico, Tamaulipas. This council, which is the first of its kind in Mexico, aims to support six specific destinations: Dolores Hidalgo, Mineral de Pozos, Comonfort, Salvatierra, Jalpa de Cánovas, and Yuriria, focusing on sustainable development and cultural preservation.

In a separate effort to protect travelers, the Guanajuato Tourism Promotion Council (COFOTUR) is working with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) to establish a certification process for travel agencies. This initiative follows reports of fraud by certain operators that have damaged the reputation of legitimate businesses. Authorities are advising citizens to remain vigilant against suspicious offers, such as travel packages priced significantly below market value, to avoid scams.
